What’s the cause of a lady’s mustache?

You must admit that as much as leg and bikini hair is absolutely normal, a mustache is still typical to men. Sadly… gentle, upper lip hair is natural for women provided that it’s light, thin and invisible.

I found out that a visible mustache bothers lots of women. We usually inherit it from mums and grandmas because the info on the hair density, colour and thickness are written in our genes. That’s a gift we get. Dark, thick hairs, resembling men’s mustache, can be the result of the hormone imbalance, too. No wonder it mostly appears during the adolescence or menopause or when you suffer from the thyroid, ovaries or pituitary diseases.

Do you have to consult a doctor about the female mustache? Nope. You either check how to remove it or start liking it (which is probably impossible). Still, if the dark, upper lip hair appears overnight, you’d better see the doctor because the problem might have a serious cause. Running a few tests won’t hurt you, will it? 🙂

Summing up, the causes of female mustache include:

  • genes,
  • hormone imbalance,
  • some diseases e.g. thyroid.

How to remove upper lip hair?

Ready? To arms! Get the accessories which effectively do away with the unwanted facial hair. Here are the most effective and recommended methods for eliminating the female mustache.

  • Tweezers. This tiny tool lets you pluck the mustache, hair by hair, but I must warn you that this technique takes time and doesn’t give long-lasting effects. Hair’s going to grow back whereas the skin might be a bit red after the treatment.
  • Epilation. This solution is definitely for the bravest and richest ones. To me, the laser hair removal is the best remedy for the female mustache. Why? The reason is simple! The laser beam deactivates hair follicles, therefore hair’s removed permanently and doesn’t grow back. The procedure is suitable for this sensitive area but… Regrettably, the upper lip hair epilation works only when you have very dark hair and fair skin because the laser needs lots of melanin (pigment) to get absorbed into.
  • Cream. I myself choose hair removal creams most often. The product weakens the hairs and removes them for some time. Even though the mustache grows back, it seems to be less visible. Hair removal creams work for me but I don’t recommend this method to girls whose skin is sensitive – it’s going to be red and irritated.
  • Waxing. The most popular beauty-salon treatment. Treat yourself to the mustache waxing while visiting your aesthetician. It takes a few minutes, hairs are removed with the bulbs and the effect of smooth skin lasts long. You can use this method at home but you need e.g. wax strips.

Can you remove upper lip hair with a razor?

I don’t recommend it because you can irritate the skin easily. The around-lip skin is fragile and prone to damage. Using a sharp blade is going to leave you with red and irritated skin; the mustache is going to grow back stronger, thicker and darker. That’s not the effect you go after, is it? You aim at removing or at least weakening the hair for a less visible mustache.

While looking for the best upper lip hair removal method, you must consider your sensitivity. I don’t recommend wax to girls who have a low pain tolerance – a half of the city is going to hear your scream 🙂 In this case, a cream is better. Still, while considering how long the effects last, the results of creams disappear most quickly. They fail to destroy the bulbs so the mustache grows back shockingly fast.

What if you don’t remove the upper lip hair at all because you’re afraid of much thicker and darker mustache? Slightly bleach it 🙂

How to make the upper lip hair less visible?

  • Buy a cream which is dedicated to bleaching the mustache. Keep in mind it contains substances that are irritative and potentially harmful to the sensitive skin.
  • Make use of a grated, raw potato which effectively bleaches the hair. For best effects, mix it with a bit of lemon juice.
  • Apply some freshly-squeezed lemon juice to the mustache. The lemon juice has natural whitening properties, especially when you expose the skin to the sunlight for a moment.

I hope you’re going to make use of my tips.
