Face and body skin care is nothing hard – that’s what I hear from my friends. If this was true, most women wouldn’t have skin problems. Sadly, it’s just the opposite. What about you? Do you know how to care for the skin?
Tests and surveys show that women have lots of doubts when it comes to skin care. We often don’t know the answers to simple questions. We forget to devote some time daily to our skin. In this way, we treat ourselves to faster skin aging, wrinkles, dark under-eye circles and discoloration. Regrettably, it’s true that neglecting the care routine is the most common cause of skin problems.
HOW TO CARE FOR THE SKIN?
A bit of preparation comes in useful. Every day our skin is exposed to lots of danger – toxins, sunlight, wind, etc. If we want to protect the skin from a reanimation, we must follow a few simple rules in the right skin care routine.
Here’s a decalogue for a healthy skin, feel free to use it every day.
First of all: Always take makeup off!
Let’s face it – going to sleep without removing makeup first is a huge mistake. Cleaning the skin precisely is the basis for an effective skin care. If we desire a healthy and stunning skin, we mustn’t forget about the makeup removal. A good remover or oil will help get rid of waterproof products.
Second of all: Regularly moisturise your skin!
Water is essential for the skin to keep the healthy and beautiful looks. Contrary to what some people try to convince us to, every skin type needs hydration. Dry skin may need a bit more whereas oily complexion – less. I advise on moisturising on the outside (creams and oils) and from within (drinking lots of water during the day). A good moisturiser is a must-have as it strengthens the natural lipid barrier and locks water where it should be – in the epidermis.
Thirdly: Hold wrinkles back!
Anti-aging routine is insanely important, even if you’ve just celebrated the 30th birthday. To be honest, the mature skin comes when you turn 25. I guess we see eye to eye here – preventing the wrinkles is better than removing them later. On a daily basis, motivate your skin cells to the renewal e.g. with products containing lots of antioxidants (vitamin E) and anti-aging ingredients (vitamin A, collagen, coenzyme Q10). You should know that wrinkles are more common in dehydrated skin (see no 2).
Fourthly: Take care of the under-eye skin!
In my opinion, we tend to forget about the most fragile areas that are most exposed to damage. The daily and proper under-eye skin care routine is the key. A face cream may be too thick or intensive for the delicate skin around the eyes. Go for lightweight under-eye creams, preferably the ones that reduce swellings and brighten the dark circles. A gentle massage during the application will be beneficial, too.
Fifthly: Make friends with the UV filter!
I hope I don’t need to remind you of the deceptive nature of the sunlight. Suntan is awesome but the sunrays that reach the skin in large quantities are extremely harmful. They speed up aging, intensify pigmentation spots and release skin-unfriendly free radicals. I believe you must get yourselves SPF-enriched creams to be sure that the skin is safe and protected. After all, health equals beauty.
Sixthly: Devote a moment to your hands and feet!
Let’s remember that the full care means caring for the hand and foot skin, too. I always have a hand lotion on me and there’s always an intensively moisturising foot cream on my nightstand so I don’t need to look for it before going to sleep. Remember that the foot skin is prone to callousing, therefore you should exfoliate it regularly. Hands are permanently exposed to unfavorable conditions and factors (e.g. cleaning products) that leave the skin extremely dry and irritated. That’s why a good hand lotion should include strongly hydrating and soothing ingredients.
Seventhly: Don’t forget about the exfoliation!
At least once a week, we should exfoliate the skin of the entire body. We must pay great attention to areas that like to get dry – elbows, heels. While removing dead epidermis that settles on the skin, we stimulate the renewal processes. The blood flow is increased so the skin gets more nutrients and oxygen and consequently is softer and smoother.
Eighthly: Care for the neck and decolletage!
I had a problem with this rule for a long time. I simply forgot to get a bit more of the face cream and spread it on the neck and decolletage, too. It’s strange as caring for this skin area doesn’t require extra treatments. You should devote a moment and do a quick massage at the same time to tighten and nourish the skin. Do you know that the skin in this area is very thin, has few sebum glands so it’s easy to make it dry? What’s more, it’s much more exposed to the harmfulness of external factors so it ages more quickly. I try to hold it back!
Ninethly: Minimize pigmentation spots!
Where do pigmentation spots come from? There are lots of reasons but no matter the cause, the right skincare may help to even out the skin tone. SPF creams make a good choice (the sunlight often affects the skin color changes). There are remedies for the discolorations that already exist e.g. whitening creams or home methods (fresh lemon juice or camomile).
Tenthly: Condition your scalp!
When was the last time you massaged or exfoliated your scalp? Neglecting this area may bring serious consequences e.g. dandruff, oiliness, unpleasant itching. Let’s prevent dandruff and get the problem over with. A mild shampoo, which balances the pH, is a must-have. Other helpful products include scalp lotions and natural oils that can be rubbed in for nourishing, better hydration, soothed irritations and faster hair growth.
A good piece of advice to sum up:
The best skincare product is the one that matches the skin’s needs. The type of the skin matters the most e.g. dry skin needs mostly moisturising products whereas acne skin requires antibacterial and soothing ones.
