Protecting hair while heat styling is an extremely important thing. I understood that too late – after totally ruining my hair with daily straightening. I didn’t use any conditioners, oils or anything that could protect it from the worst.
A heat protectant spray is usually enough.
Did you know that styling products come in two groups? The ones that help you create a dream style and the ones that secure the hair from the destructive effect of high temperature. We should make use of them, shouldn’t we?
That’s why I present:
THE BEST HEAT PROTECTANT AND HAIR STYLING SPRAYS
I had an opportunity to test them on my own hair. I often reach for a flat iron or dryer so the tests were carried out in harsh conditions. What worked well on my hair?
#1 Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray
A heat protectant from Nanoil stole my heart since the first use. Beyond the affordable price and lovely design, it is super-effective! The Nanoil spray guarantees maximum protection from temperatures of up to 430℉/220°C, enveloping the hair with a protective coating and strengthening it while we style it. The product contains silk proteins so it additionally repairs, brilliantly smooths and boosts shine. It’s not just a heat protectant but also a beautifying spray.

#2 Ouai Heat Protection Spray
An ordinary protective and styling spray from Quai also deserves to be noted. Thanks to polymers, it strengthens the hair and protects it against high temperatures. The added plant extracts soften and smooth the strands, and tame them to hold back frizz while blow-drying, for example. It’s lightweight, and comes in a handy bottle with an easy-to-use atomiser applicator.
#3 Balmain Thermal Protection Spray
A spray from Balmain, packed in a lovely damask bottle, is another option for those who want to protect their hairdos from damaging conditions. It contains plant-derived proteins, argan nut extract and provitamin B5, which is a set of repairing, nourishing and hydrating substances. Still, the spray focuses on securing the strands from high temperature.
#4 Kevin Murphy Ever Smooth Style Extender
The Kevin Murphy Ever Smooth Style Extender is another interesting product – it aims to set a style and acts as a heat protectant. A minimalist bottle (typical of the brand) houses a lightweight and innovative spray which controls frizz and creates a style that lasts long thanks to the heat activated by a dryer. Rather than a typical heat protectant, it’s a spray for taming unruly strands.
#5 Philip B. Thermal Protection Spray
A thermal protection spray from Philip B. can also be used for styling and smooth finish. It has a convenient atomizer applicator and a fancy bottle, plus a wonderful smell that stimulates the senses. You spray it on and get shine and protection in exchange. It works thanks to ingredients such as mongongo oil, almond oil, vitamin E, peptides from blue lupin and extract from safflower. Quite a lot of natural ingredients.
#6 L’Oréal Elvive Dream Lengths Heat Slayer Spray
L’Oréal Paris also offers a heat protection spray. The product protects from damage caused by temperature of up to 446℉/230°C, plus it prevents frizzy and static strands. It’s effective at smoothing the hair and creating a silky finish. Too bad castor oil infused into the formula makes the spray greasy. It may weigh hair down.
#7 Wella Eimi Sugar Lift
Last of all, an untypical product. It isn’t a regular heat protectant but a sugar-based styling spray which boosts volume and de-frizzes the hair. How does it do that? With sugar which lifts the roots and adds smoothness at the same time. The Wella Eimi Sugar Lift prevents dryness and breakage of hair too. I must say it’s an interesting idea.
