Hello Girls 😉
Did you know that a hair doctor exists?
Probably most of you associate this physician with ‘a bald and balding doctor’ – yes, a trichologist (because I’m talking about this profession) helps deal with such ailments, but it would be unfair to make little of their role. Trichologist also treats a wide range of afflictions and helps diagnosing condition of hair and scalp. Moreover, the specialist can define porosity level of hair and provide a support when all the cosmetics, preparations and treatments fail us. The field of study dealing with scalp afflictions is trichology. It’s a kind of a stepping stone connecting medicine and cosmetology. It includes hairdressing, dermatology, cosmetic physiotherapy, aesthetic medicine and even psychology, because hair issues are frequently the result of stress or depression.
Have you ever thought about scheduling an appointment at a trichologist’s to check out condition of your hair, follicles and the scalp? Indeed, this can be a useful visit since a trichologist will probably tell you whether, for example, your hair is overburdened by keratin overbuilding at the hair root, or whether the scalp requires special cleansing, what porosity your hair is, and finally, if there are plenty of micro-damages on your hair structure.
The first visit at a trichologist’s may turn out to be quite an experience. It should be taken for granted that before a trichologist exams you (trichoskopy), s/he will ask you inquisitively about many aspects of your lifestyle as well as the way you treat the hair, of course.
What may a trichologist ask about? – A short crib:
- medication and food supplements you take;
- diet you follow (if too restricted, it might contribute to hair weakening);
- the way you take care of hair on a daily basis;
- diseases you were affected by;
- cosmetics and hair pharmaceuticals that you’ve been using recently;
- your mental condition, which means if you have been affected by stress recently;
- amount of sleep;
- hormones;
- genetic diseases and heritable disorders.
Tests a trichologist may ask you to run
In order to get the whole picture concerning the state of our health and what is happening in our organism, a trichologist may (but s/he doesn’t have to) ask you to run some test. Most often these are a basic tests like blood count, vitamin B12 and ferritin (a protein facilitating iron storing), copper, zinc, electrolytes and iron. Sometimes running hormonal and thyroid gland tests are necessary. My advice: it’s better to take one step further and positively surprise a trichologist by entering the office with a set of basic tests already run. This will make it easier for a trichologist to establish early diagnosis and speed up the entire process of treatment.
Trichological examination – Should I be scarred? 🙂
While examining our scalp, a trichologist uses a tiny device which is just a dermatoscope, a x200 magnifier. The precise data directly transmitted to a computer (synchronized with a special software) is carried out with the use of a digital microscopic analysis. Thanks to this, a trichologist is able to define hair and scalp’s condition of all layers, even the inner ones. It’s worth realizing that one of the most important parts of the examination is analysis of hair bulbs’ condition. A trichologist checks thickness, state and ‘generative maturity’ – so the stage most of the hair bulbs are currently in. Once the examination is over, you may find out the thickness of your hair and the percentage of it being at the growth phase. Moreover, a trichologist can also define the proportion between growing hair and resting hair.
Trichologist – When should you arrange a meeting?
Basically, you can visit a trichologist any time you want to. Thanks to this, you will learn much about your hair and its state, you will have porosity level professionally defined as you’ll get a manual on how to treat your hair type in particular. Naturally, you must visit a trichologist when you are affected by some serious illness like excessive hair loss, excessive dehydration of the scalp, first signs of baldness, oily scalp, inhibition of hair growth, serious hair damages, remittent dandruff or psoriasis.
Alternative – When you DON’T HAVE TO visit a trichologist?
I know that hair loss is far from being cool, I know that each one of use would like to have beautiful, long hair that grows fast. However, if the form of dandruff is mild or when you lose only a few hairs per day, which may be caused by temporary changes in your organism, there’s no need to seek trichologist’s help. If the ailments affecting you are mild, it’s worth reaching for some delicate and natural remedies that will improve state of your hair and reinforce its condition. My problems with thinning hair were dealt with thanks to natural oils and regular oil hair treatment. The good thing about natural oils is that they can be applied directly to the scalp so they nourish hair on its entire length together with the bulbs. It’s worth realizing that if the blend is well-selected, this mixture is able to accelerate hair growth and significantly improve the state of the scalp. Naturally, hair bulbs become regenerated and reinforced noticeably.
Have you ever visited a trichologist? What are your thoughts connected with the visit? Is this kind of examination useful? Do you have your own solutions for minor hair afflictions? Tell me!
Take care! 🙂
